L’Ecomuseo

L’Ecomuseo dell’Appennino Lombardo “Il grano in erba” comprende i comuni di Santa Margherita Staffora, Menconico, Brallo di Pregola e Romagnese (PV). Un angolo di Lombardia, che si insinua tra Piemonte, Emilia e Liguria e da queste regioni prende storia e tradizioni. Un tempo ponte verso il mare per nobili, commercianti e pellegrini, ritrova nel silenzio delle montagne la sua identità, con le strade in sasso, i cortili, le musiche della festa, il silenzio degli alpeggi. Qui la Comunità locale ha saputo fare della sua storia non un ricordo, ma spunto per costruire e rilanciare il territorio; ecco il senso de Il Grano in erba, ogni chicco ha in sé il futuro, il senso del territorio che genera la vita. In queste aree si possono perciò riscoprire antichi mulini ancora in funzione, la Fornace romana e il Museo contadino. Si possono percorrere sentieri storici come la Via del sale o il misterioso Sentiero del Brigante, visitare il Santuario della Madonna del Bocco, degustare produzioni tipiche come il Salame di Varzi, le formaggette di Casale e di Brallo, la carne degli alpeggi, funghi e tartufi e le tipiche torte di mandorle.

The Appennino Lombardo Ecomuseum “il grano in erba” enclose the area around the municipality of Santa Margherita Staffora, Brallo di Pregola, Romagnese and Menconico, in the province of Pavia. A corner of Regione Lombardia, between Piemonte, Emilia and Liguria and from these three regions the ecomuseum takes history, language and traditions forming an unequalled and singular mix.
One time this place was a bridge in the direction of the sea crossed by nobles, merchands, pilgrims and shepherds and now this place finds again in the silence of the mountains its deep identity, for example in the courtyards, in the hiking trails, in the stone streets.
It’s not easy for the persons meet again in the empty spaces that a lot of men leaved, but people who stays again here was able to grow and increase the territory. For this reason the little woodwork was able to create new jobs, the old stable became a very expert cooperative, anda every man look for new solutions to stay in this place.
This is the meaning of “grano in erba” where the sense of territory became a new occasion for the future.
The territory offers different opportunities of visit, stay and activities.
Here is possible to discover the old mills again in function as the “Pelegro Mill” and the mill of Menconico, the Roman furnace and the farmer museum in Menconico; it’s possible walking in old historic tracks like the “way of salt” until Camogli or the mysterious “bandit track” and it’s also possible to visit the churches and the Sanctuary of “Madonna del Bocco”.
The ecomuseum organizes courses about territory, about develop of rural areas, about ethical agriculture and about the interactions between person and community.
It’s possible to visit the wood and energy firms and it’s also possible to buy good salame, bread and biscuits, mushroom tagliatelle and truffle ravioli.
The permanence is guaranteed by the local hotels, as well as the tasting of typical productions through several restaurants in Casanova, Cegni, Menconico, Passo Armà and Giovà. These restaurants offer salame of Varzi, cheese of Casale and Brallo, meat, mushrooms, truffles, the typical almond cake, the ring shaped cake and the bread called mica. There are also little locals and a nice beer-house that offers typical afternoon snack.
The Ecomuseum is near Milano and it’s easy to arrive here by car or by public transports, far away from the plain fog and here it’s easy find the sea wind and it’s possible meeting new friends to discover every day new emotions.
